Louisiana Moves to Consolidate New Orleans Government Offices

On Friday, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, a state representative, a senator, a representative from Mayor Nagin's Office, and other civic and professional organizations announced support for House Bill 642 to consolidate the seven Orleans Parish Tax Assessors offices into one.

In an article in today's Bayou Buzz writer Steve Sabludowsky says that regarding consolidation of courts, criminal justice agencies and tax assessors: "The question is whether consolidation can be done effectively and efficiently. Therefore, everything depends upon the T-Word, technology.

"In the world of the Internet when databases are accessed 24/7, there is every reason to be more efficient and more technology-driven.

"Unfortunately, the courts and assessors really have not gotten the message and have not efficiently deployed technologies at all."
