Robert von Wolffradt Takes Reins as Iowa CIO

Gov. Branstad announces former Wyoming CIO will lead state’s technology initiatives

Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad announced this week that Robert von Wolffradt has been named the state’s chief information officer.

Wolffradt most recently served as CIO for Wyoming, under former Gov. Dave Freudenthal. In Wyoming, Wolffradt installed the first statewide cloud-based email system in the country. He is also credited with leading significant IT consolidation efforts in Wyoming.

Gov. Branstad had this to say in an announcement of the appointment: “Robert is exactly the right person to lead our efforts to improve state government’s efficiency and effectiveness through technology. Robert’s qualifications are second-to-none, and Iowa is fortunate to have such a forward-thinking talent in this pivotal position.”

Wolffradt holds a master’s degree in computer resources and information management from Webster University, and a B.S. in computer science from the University of Maryland.

According to Gov. Branstad’s announcement, Wolffradt also previously served as director of information services for Snohomish County, Wash.; chief operating officer of Schoolkit.com; and served in the United States Air Force.
