Though computers are ubiquitous and essential to our everyday lives, most of us never think about where they came from.

The Computer History Museum in Mountain View, Calif., however, is dedicated to just that -- it features exhibits educating visitors about the history of computing technology in professional and personal use.

The Revolution exhibit in particular contains a gallery of computing devices that represents the first 2,000 years of computing in society. Galleries showcase industrial robots, calculators, ancient slide rules, smartphones, video game systems, supercomputer components and storage hardware, accompanied by signage explaining what these creations are used for.

The museum emphasizes the fact that computers are much more than the desktops and laptops that have dominated workplaces for decades.
