(TNS) — The digital literacy program CanCode got a boost Wednesday in the form of a $50,000 check from the Business for Good foundation.

The mission of CanCode, a nonprofit, is to reach individuals in the Capital Region who have an aptitude to work in software but lack resources for training. CanCode (originally called Albany CanCode) launched in 2016 with a 12-week course teaching front end web development. Albany CanCode quickly expanded to include kindergarten through 12th grade teachers who wanted a fuller digital education to incorporate into their lesson plans. In 2020 CanCode expanded to Kingston and continues to grow outside of the Capital Region as CanCode Communities.

“We are thrilled to receive this generous support from Business for Good, an outstanding organization with whom we share an unwavering belief in the power of community,” said CanCode Communities Founder and CEO Annmarie Lanesey. “This funding will strengthen our efforts to provide underrepresented individuals with pathways to exciting careers in technology, expanding the talent pipeline for businesses and enriching the communities we serve.”

Business for Good CEO, Jahkeen Hoke, said the foundation and CanCode are aligned in their educational missions. “Business for Good believes that education in all forms should be accessible to everyone,” Hoke said. “We are proud to support CanCode Communities in their efforts to provide the community with necessary tools and resources to develop and thrive.”
