Via other sources the word on the street is that AT&T is going to submit a proposal and because of that, Verizon, who originally said it would not — is going to submit. There are other players, but none I recognize. Sprint is not submitting.
Cost and coverage are going to be two key determiners if FirstNet will have widespread adoption, or falter after a few years. Having bigger national players coming to the table is somewhat good news. They have national networks and good coverage already. But recognize that they want to make money. There has to be a path for them to see a profit and not lose money on the proposition of providing this new separate network for relatively few agencies and people compared with the millions that get their coverage via their commercial networks. On that $$ note, I don't think I've heard one federal agency talking about FirstNet. They need to be customers of the system too!
