The biggest hurdle that government has with drones is the citizen push-back about police use. Giving police some options is not a totally bad idea. When Dallas police took out the sniper there who was shooting police using a bomb robot — it was a first-time, in my memory, that a robot was used in such a proactive lethal encounter. The action certainly protected against the potential for future police casualties.
There is certainly more dialog and legal challenges to come on the use of drones in policing.
