26 Years Later, We're Still Talking About Climate Legislation

In the movies and in the real world!

President Biden’s proposed infrastructure legislation has numerous components in it that will address the impacts of climate change.

Anything having to do with the warming planet seems to have some opposition to the issue. It can be that “it really isn’t happening” to “it is happening, but people are not the cause.” It is the natural fluctuations in global temperatures that have happened across the centuries/eons.

Interestingly, just last night at the Holdeman household we watched The American President that has Michael Douglas playing the role of the president. It was released in November 1995, 26 years ago, and there is an element of the movie that is focused on climate change and fossil fuels. In the movie, there is legislation is being proposed to cut emissions by 20 percent.

Although that was a movie while today’s debate is real — what has changed? It would appear we have lost a quarter of a century in which to address the issue of a warming climate.
