The new version of the FEMA App allows for disaster damage reporting using crowdsourcing It will provide for increase situational awareness for FEMA in knowing where assistance is most needed. This allow citizens using the app to take pictures and have them geocoded to an interactive map. I also noted that there isn't a version for the Windows Phone. Microsoft is still not "first on the list" to develop an app for their system.
For us here in the Puget Sound we are in the midst of fielding FirstToSee which is similar, but also has the advantage of being a social media system that allows agencies to also tap into Twitter to mine it for information they are looking for by using key words and also geocoding that information. Therefore, not everyone has to have had downloaded the app itself.
I'm wondering how state and local agencies can tap into the information that FEMA is receiving on the app? What is the plan to share the data?
