I gave my wife a three-day backpack kit for her car last year, and one for my daughter the year before that. For those people who can afford it, having a kit assembled with the appropriate supplies is one way to go. Purchasing one makes it simpler, and many people have good intentions of putting a bag together — but, never get around to doing it.

For many apartment dwellers, they don't have a lot of room to store supplies, so a kit bag that is all assembled is a good solution. And, as noted above, for those who commute by car, having a kit in the car is a very good idea.
