Chief Resilience Officer Named for City of Seattle

An interesting combination of sustainability and resilience.

This past week, the mayor of Seattle named a Chief Resilience Officer (CRO)tapping Jessica Finn Coven, the current director of Seattle’s Office of Sustainability and Environment.

Way back when, I had written about how some sustainability people were wondering if this new-fangled "Disaster Resilience" was going to interface with sustainability. The city of Seattle is about to find out!

There are now three Pacific Northwest cities participating in the Rockefeller Foundation's 100 Resilient Cities program: Seattle; Vancouver, British Columbia; Calgary, Alberta.

This summer the Center for Regional Disaster Resilience (CRDR) is hosting a two-day Disaster Resilience Symposium  Check it out. This is an event you might want to attend. I'm hoping that we'll have all three of the above cities on the kickoff panel titled Defining Disaster Resilience.
