Disaster Zone Podcast: Personal and Organizational Risk Management

Risk management applies to the individual and organizations.

The key to almost every aspect of emergency management and the different phases of disasters has to do with the management of risk. It applies to everything. Without an understanding of risk and how we perceive it, as people and organizations we will continue to fail when it comes to disasters.

See my latest Disaster Zonepodcast: “Personal and Organizational Risk Management.”

The description of the podcast is below:

Michele Wucker is an author, speaker and strategist on the topic of risk. Her most recent book is You Are What You Risk: The New Art and Science of Navigating an Uncertain World.

“This podcast interviews her about her expertise and questions are centered on topics of interest to individuals and emergency managers when it comes to disasters. This would be an excellent text for courses in emergency management to educate people on the topic of risk, so we can manage it ourselves and address programmatic and public education efforts with a more informed position.”

And since the subject of Gray Rhinos came up several times during our discussions, here is the book that was referred to in the podcast: The Gray Rhino: How to Recognize and Act on the Obvious Dangers We Ignore.
Eric Holdeman is a contributing writer for Emergency Management magazine and is the former director of the King County, Wash., Office of Emergency Management.
