Greenville Consumed by the Dixie Fire

Another California town goes up in flames.

It was not a huge community — around 1,000 people — butthe history and business district of Greenville, Calif., has gone up in flames, along with approximately 100 or so homes.

Fortunately, they had plenty of warning to evacuate and at this writing there is only one recorded death.

The Dixie Fire is now one of the largest in California’s history of fires and about one-thrid the size of Rhode Island (a small state, but still...).

Another fact to get your head around is that the fire season in California extends through November. That means they have four more months of fire weather — and who knows, it could extend into December since history is not always repeating itself due to changing weather patterns driven by climate change.
