Insurance for Commercial Drone Operators

It is a reflection of the industry maturing.

I know that when a disruptive technology begins to have insurance policies for owners and operators, it is a maturing industry. See this announcement below:

BWI and AUVSI Announce Drone Insurance Partnership

CORONA, Calif. — BWI, the nation’s leader in aviation and drone insurance, and the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), the world’s largest nonprofit organization devoted exclusively to advancing the unmanned systems and robotics community, announced today a new drone insurance partnership to bring discounts on insurance and additional products and services for AUVSI members and BWI customers.

“We are thrilled to expand the products and services available to AUVSI members and provide A+ insurance policies and coverage to those actively engaged in the drone and unmanned systems community,” said Matt White, owner of BWI.

All active AUVSI members will receive a five percent discount on drone insurance policies and have direct access to commercial and small business insurance policies through a dedicated insurance portal on www.AUVSI.org or www.bwifly.com. BWI will also deliver top quality service and support for all current and future AUVSI members regarding drone and other unmanned systems insurance policies and applications.

“AUVSI’s partnership with BWI will provide commercial drone operators with access to insurance policies that will protect their businesses and help them fly safely and responsibly,” said Brian Wynne, president and CEO of AUVSI.
