Mask Confusion

I like and trust the CDC, but...

The recent Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announcement on May 13 providing guidance on the wearing of masks is welcome news, but also a cause to pause and think about all the ramifications of the announcement.

In case you have been on another planet for a few days, here is a story on the CDC’s newest change on mask wearing guidance: “People vaccinated against Covid-19 can go without masks indoors and outdoors, CDC says.”

Recognizing that the majority of people are only reading headlines and then not getting the details, there are moments where we should pause and remember that “it ain’t over till it is over” and progress today does not mean we can’t reverse course in the future. The hospital I’ve been hanging out at for four days (not as a patient) has 50 COVID-19 cases admitted, which is the most they have ever had to date.

And, I did hear Dr. Fauci say that the grilling about the wearing of masks and CDC guidance on that topic that the medical types got from Congress last week did not influence this decision — I would say this course correction sure did occur close to that event!
