The COVID Delta Surge Is Upon Us

Now we know why — it is very infectious.

We are all ready for the pandemic to be over, but it is not. The cases and the hospitalizations keep ticking upwards. The case rate has gone up 151 percent nationally in the last 14 days.

If you recall, the delta variant became the dominant variant in the United States after only three weeks. Now we know why.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is citing studies that show the new variant to be more contagious than a whole laundry list of of other highly contagious diseases, e.g., smallpox, chickenpox, Ebola, and the common cold.

If anything will bring back universal mask-wearing mandates, it will be the fact that even vaccinated people who are asymptomatic can spread the virus. Go dig out your masks now if you stopped wearing them when you became fully vaccinated.

Watch for “mask wars” to heat up in the coming weeks and especially as kids head back to school. You won’t want to be a school board member in the coming months as irate parents berate you in person or virtually on Zoom.

The only real way out of the pandemic is vaccinations. First here in the U.S. and then in all nations across the globe — otherwise, more variants are in our future.

Vaccinations for children age 12 and under can’t come soon enough!
