The U.S. Sending Rocket Systems to Ukraine

I’m betting this is the system: MLRS M270.

Recent news reports have the United States shipping a rocket system to Ukraine for them to use in fending off the Russian invasion. Russia has favored rocket systems, using them extensively in World War II. The “Stalin Organ” was the common name given to these truck-mounted multiple-rocket launchers.

The United States developed its own Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) back in the 1970s, designated the M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (M270 MLRS). It is one of the few Army weapon systems that I’ve never personally seen fired. The link above will give you all the details on the system. I’m betting that the U.S. does not furnish the bomblet version of the rocket’s munitions.

The transfer of these types of heavy weapons would likely go by sea, but I suppose they could fly individual systems in C-5M Super Galaxy Air Force planes.
