Video: Devastation on the West Coast of Florida

A helicopter tour of the coastline in one county.

It is pretty much as bad as bad can be. See “CNN’s John Berman flew above storm damage. This is what he saw.”

The assertion that reconstruction will take years is right on the money. The next question is what type of housing or buildings will replace those damaged by the storm.

Then, will sea rise be taken into consideration? Not likely in Florida.

Will the new structures be built to a new building code that requires them to have hurricane mitigation measures, or will we put Humpty Dumpty back on the beach, cracks and all, to fall once more in the future?

The other issue that has been called out is the likely gentrification of this area. Where small beach homes existed before, will huge homes and condos occupy the space?

Anyone without flood insurance will not be able to rebuild — for those of average means.
