Vine: The Death of One Social Media Platform

Content is king.

If you are not familiar with Vine, you can probably leave off trying to learn what it was and did (very short, 6-second videos).

It sprang up quickly and then died under the scorching heat of competition. The death certificate is effective today, and cause of death is "lack of content." See this article on its demise, Death Of Vine Should Be A Lesson To Other Social Media Platforms.

The author attributes the "cause of death" to lack of content. For us in emergency management, it is a reminder that any of these social media tools that we have started using will likely not survive forever in their current form. We will have to adjust our programs to what the market provides.

Lastly, as I watch news programs today and talking heads speaking about politics and communicating with the public in general, social media is always a topic of the conversation. It is where people are meshing with one another today. We need to be there to communicate with them.
