243,000 Alabamians Still Without Power After Hurricane Zeta

Mike Jordan, spokesman for Alabama Power said as of 6:15 a.m. Friday that 243,000 customers statewide woke up without power. About 61,000 of those customers are in central Alabama, the hardest hit areas in the state.

After power was cut to about half a million Alabamians as Hurricane Zeta moved through the state, service has been turned back on for about half of those households.
 
Mike Jordan, spokesman for Alabama Power said as of 6:15 a.m. Friday that 243,000 customers statewide woke up without power. About 61,000 of those customers are in central Alabama, the hardest hit areas in the state.
 
Jordan said Thursday night that significant, widespread damage will lead to a multi-day power restoration effort.
 
"Customers should know we are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore service. We appreciate everyone’s patience," Jordan said. "Due to extensive outages, customers may experience issues when logging into their online account or calling 1-800-888-2726. We are aware of the problem and working diligently towards a solution."
 
Six people were confirmed dead as a result of Zeta's wrath, the 27th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.
 
A Clarke County resident was killed when a tree fell on a home, the Alabama Emergency Management Agency confirmed Thursday. One man was electrocuted in New Orleans, a man drowned in Biloxi, Mississippi, and a man in Acworth, Georgia, was killed when an oak tree fell on the mobile home in which he was staying. Two people were killed near Atlanta when a tree fell on their house, pinning them to the bed.
