New Peak in COVID-19 Infections May Be Result of Schools Opening

"We continue to work with our partners in the community to take reasonable action to mitigate COVID-19," Douglas said. " The recommendations to mitigate COVID-19 include the use of face coverings, social distancing, increased hand-washing/sanitizing, and staying home if you are ill."

(TNS) - As of Tuesday, Rogers County has seen a total of 1,729 confirmed cases and 49 deaths. This is compared to 1,683 confirmed cases and 48 deaths reported on Monday, a 46 case increase day-over-day, according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

"I monitor the COVID numbers for the city daily, and provide at least a weekly report to the city manager and mayor. In the city of Claremore, we peaked at 174 active cases on Aug. 16 dropped to 115 active cases Sept. 3, and have slowly trended back up to 177 active cases as of Sept. 22," said Claremore Emergency Management Director/Fire Chief Sean Douglas. "I'm not an epidemiologist, but I believe the numbers have gone back up as a result of increased community activity around people returning to school. The last peak we had followed the re-opening efforts, with their being about a two week lag for the case numbers to change based on changes in community activity. The majority of the local deaths appear to have occurred at the Claremore Veterans Center based on other media coverage."

Douglas said that because the local healthcare system is stable he is not advising that the city make any changes.
