Did Orlando Qualify as a Federally Declared Disaster?

When will state and local panhandling of federal disaster funds end?

The bottom line is that everyone is looking for someone else to pay for their troubles. The tragic shooting and deaths in Orlando was not the type of "disaster" that meets the qualifications for a federal declaration of a disaster or emergency. See FL Gov. Calls FEMA's Denial of Orlando Emergency Declaration 'Incredibly Disappointing.'

Yes, I'm sure oodles of overtime were paid and are being paid to first responders who came to the aid of those shot and the following investigation that continues. But when will the panhandling of federal disaster funds end? As it looks today, I'd say never.

Rainy day funds are for these types of events. Just because the federal government can continue to borrow and not repay its debts does not make it the best choice for jurisdictions unwilling to pay their fair share of costs that are more appropriate for non-catastrophic events.

We are on a slippery slope and sliding fast!
