Estimated $15 Billion Flood Loss in Louisiana

These estimates can be wildly off -- yet, a large number is to be expected.

Immediately, and I mean "immediately" following a disaster, the media wants to know what the loss of life was and the estimated cost of the damages due to the disaster. Thus, in today's world some have turned to modeling to forecast what those losses are. If you remember Superstorm Sandy the number $80 billion got tossed out there very early in the post disaster.

While I'm a fan of modeling, any number that is shared needs to come with a very big asterisk attached to it as more of a guess. One commercial insurance modeler is estimating 110,000 home damaged along with 100,000 vehicles. The grand total they are projecting is $15 billion.

See this story for more information: Louisiana Flood of 2016 seen costing up to $15 billion, mostly uninsured.

The key word above is "uninsured." It will be interesting to see what the administration or Congress might do. It is an election year after all. Is Louisiana a "swing state?"
