How the Storm Gods Fooled the Weathermen-Forecasters

The big Pacific Coast windstorm did not materialize as predicted.

It is interesting to read about people being disappointed that trees didn't fall and the power did not go out. I'm betting that if the power was out on Sunday and people missed the SeaHawks football game, they would have been a bit more irritated by a storm.

See this article, Why that ‘monster storm’ seemed so mild, and how to fix future forecasts. The part I loved in it was the comment, "We’re going to have a meeting on Thursday with the weather service to talk this thing through, and have a psychologist with us to work on this." Amen to that! We have the hard science to deal with of forecasting the weather and then we have people's brains and emotions to delve into in addition to barometric pressures.

Yesterday I wrote an Op-ed on the topic of Lessons Learned from the Windstorm that Wasn't. Since it is still pending, I'll wait to share my specific thoughts here until they accept or reject the piece.
