Another name being bandied about is Fran Townsend, a former Bush Administration appointee. She served as the White House homeland security advisor from 2004-2008. She would bring some experience to the team and some credentials. She would also be the first woman (correction! How soon I forgot about Janet Napolitano--thanks to a reader's email to me) to serve in that position.
With former Mayor Rudy Guiliani still not named to a position, might he take on the work of DHS Secretary?
It is interesting to note how all the other previous Secretaries have parleyed their former appointments into business opportunities with a terrorism nexus. It will be interesting to see if Jeh Johnson does the same. My impression is that he not that committed to the subject area to do so.
And, if you are waiting for the FEMA Administrator to be named, don't hold your breath. You'll be turning blue long before a name is floated for that position--if history is any indicator. Just who is the Trump loyalist who would want the job or settle for the position?
If Guiliani gets the nod for DHS secretary I'll throw out another name of someone who would be interested and willing to serve as FEMA Administrator.
