Weathering the Storm: Three Tales

An appropriate topic for people in the middle of Hurricane Matthew.

The magazine American City and County has as their lead article for their current edition, Weathering the Storm.

An appropriate topic and subject since we have the hurricane of the decade that is hitting Florida now and soon Georgia and South Carolina. The article relates three different disaster scenarios and experiences. The hazards responded to included flooding, tornado and wildland fire — none of them as calamitous as Hurricane Matthew, but significant each in their own way. In one case, two hours sleep over a 96-hour period of the disaster response.

One element that runs through all three tales is the need for relationships to be in place before an event.
