Autonomous and Connected Cars

Randy Iwasaki of the Contra Costa Transportation Authority joins us for a conversation about GoMentum Station, autonomous cars, and the role of government in transforming transportation.

In late March, Contra Costa County, Calif., officials made headlines when it was announced that Honda would start testing autonomous vehicles at GoMentum Station, an autonomous and connected vehicle test facility being created in the Bay Area city of Concord. The site offers an optimal setting for the testing and development of potentially transformative automobile technology. With more than 20 miles of roads and associated infrastructure, the former naval testing site will serve as an ideal stand in for real-world driving environments. GoMentum Station will be a cutting-edge research and development site that will create new jobs and businesses as the technology involved in building autonomous cars continues to advance.

On this edition of FutureStructure Radio, Randy Iwasaki, executive director of the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, joins FutureStructure editor Chad Vander Veen for a conversation about GoMentum Station, autonomous cars, and the role of government in transforming transportation.
