Why is Google Buying Up Robotics Companies?

In the last half year, Google has purchased eight companies that specialize in building robots. What does the search engine champ have in store?

Google’s company motto is “Don’t be evil”, but the fact that Google has bought eight robotics companies over the last six months, including the infamous Boston Dynamics, hints that there might be something less than angelic going on in Mountain View, writes The Kernel’s Ned Donovan. It’s an impression that hasn’t been helped by the search engine giant keeping quiet about the spending spree and refusing to divulge any of the details or motives behind the purchases.

In this article, Donovan examines the eight robotics companies Google has acquired over the last year and tries to piece together clues as to what Google’s “Robot Project” is really about.
