BRIEF: $1M Federal Grant to Improve Internet in Indiana County

Officials in St. Joseph County hopes the funding from the U.S. Economic Development Administration will improve high-speed broadband access for residents and businesses and act as a draw for larger companies.

(TNS)  — St. Joseph County has landed a $1 million federal grant to expand high-speed broadband service in the New Carlisle area, where county leaders hope to lure large industrial businesses.

The county will use New Carlisle area tax increment finance money to kick in another $1 million for the project, which will mean easier high-speed Internet access for residents and businesses in the area.

The announcement of the grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration was made Friday by U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski at the Navistar Proving Grounds near New Carlisle. The commercial truck and engine company, which tests vehicles at the site, will benefit from high-speed Internet access made available by the project.
