New York City implements parking cards for meters
This week, the New York City Department of Transportation implemented a pilot program which will allow for the use of NYC Parking Cards in select single-space meters in Queens, Manhattan and Brooklyn. The meters are marked with a yellow decal, and charge $2 per hour for on-street parking. For single-space meters, the motorist inserts the card, and the meter displays the card balance, then start adding parking time increments. The motorist removes the card when the desired time is purchased. The city expects the new meters with coin and card slots will make it more convenient for motorists and reduce the risk of theft of coins.
