Charlotte, N.C., Selects New Enterprise E-Government Solution

Web-based system provides city with an integrated solution for managing all land development activities

Charlotte, N.C., selected Accela Automation to be implemented as the new enterprise permit and land management solution, according to a release from the company. The solution will be utilized by the land development department, which provides services that protect the welfare of the public and the environment, and support smart growth.

The system provides the city with a Web-based solution so flexible that it can manage all enterprise activities including permitting, inspections, workflow, project management, plan review and code enforcement. Users will access the application using a Web browser, reducing the IT effort needed to configure and maintain the application on client machines.

"By implementing Accela Automation and enabling our employees to be interconnected, the city of Charlotte will be able to make significant progress on our initiatives, in less time and with less effort," said David Weekly, Land Development Division manager at Charlotte. "We'll benefit from more streamlined and efficient management, and our citizens will see immediate and tangible results of our activities."

The city will be implementing additional Accela business solutions to facilitate application processing, including wireless for field inspectors using portable devices, citizen access to allow citizens to apply and pay for permits, schedule inspections, check the status of a permit or inspection, or print an approved permit directly from the Internet.
