Fighting Crime with CRIMES

County expands its use of criminal records and information management system

MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Ore. -- The Multnomah County District Attorney's (MCDA) office announced it is implementing CRIMES (Criminal Records Information Management and Exchange System), a case records and information management system for prosecuting attorneys.

Multnomah County is both the smallest in size and largest in population in Oregon. MCDA will use the CRIMES implementation in adult prosecutions to enable sharing of relevant and accurate data to increase quality and productivity while protecting data confidentiality.

"This improved technology will help all of us to continue to meet the commitment to protect children and victims of crime and to maintain timely and appropriate sanctions and consequences for those who engage in criminal activity," said Michael D. Schrunk, Multnomah County's District Attorney.

As part of the adult system implementation, CIBER is utilizing its Integrated Justice Exchange (IJEX) solution to create interfaces with the Oregon Justice Information Network (OJIN), a criminal computer database, to coordinate ongoing court events. IJEX is also being used to create a bi- directional interface with the Portland Police Bureau for the exchange of data.

The adult system project marks the second CRIMES implementation for Multnomah County; the first implementation took place in 2001 for Multnomah County's juvenile system. Multnomah County District Attorney employees to developed a new module called Juvenile Dependency. Both the Juvenile Delinquency and the Juvenile Dependency modules capture data on cases including allegations and court events, as well as Deputy District Attorney case assignments.
