MessageGate Improves E-Mail Compliance and Categorization

E-mail compliance and categorization based on industry standards such as Java, XML, WSDL and SOAP

MessageGate has released MessageGate E-mail Compliance System (ECS) 4.0. This product assists large enterprises with e-mail compliance and categorization through the delivery of new features on a Java-based, service-oriented architecture (SOA). MessageGate ECS provides advanced message analysis, rich e-mail routing and policy actions, proactive message intervention, pre-configured policy templates and real-time message categorization in an easily customized, componentized system. This new, highly scalable solution enables large enterprises to improve operational efficiency, protect against regulatory violations, prevent security breaches, and reduce e-mail archiving costs.

"Most e-mail compliance products available today are highly constrained solutions that are not appropriate for large organizations with diverse, highly specific mail monitoring and categorization needs," said David Weld, MessageGate president and CEO. "In contrast, MessageGate offers a readily customizable product that can be extended to address virtually any enterprise messaging requirement. The power of ECS and its scalable design is critical to large companies that need to isolate individual messages within volumes that can exceed millions of e-mails a day."

E-mail Compliance -- Monitoring and Prevention

The prominence of e-mail in high-profile corporate litigation has spurred greater awareness of the need to enforce strict compliance with a rapidly expanding list of government regulations such as Gramm-Leach-Bliley, Sarbanes- Oxley, HIPAA and FERC. According to Osterman Research, however, only 1 in 7 corporations today has deployed an automated solution to enforce messaging policies. "With its frequent use and universal reliance, e-mail is today's greatest risk for companies," said Michael Osterman. "When violations are not caught in time, companies can suffer direct revenue losses, indirect costs via damaged corporate reputations and costly negative legal judgments."

MessageGate ECS 4.0 combines content, context, and meta-data analysis to provide customers with the most robust e-mail compliance solution available today, addressing both corporate and regulatory policy needs. For non-IT users (e.g. compliance, business, and legal professionals), ECS provides tailored, role-specific interfaces, enabling simplified policy creation, monitoring, and message review.

Through both pre-and post-send processing capabilities, ECS enables companies to proactively monitor and prevent corporate and regulatory policy violations, the loss of intellectual property, and the release of confidential customer information. MessageGate's component-based SOA delivers massive scalability, intricate message analysis, and complete flexibility in policy structure and message disposition. ECS analyzes more than 35 distinct message parts including sender/recipient combinations, message and attachment content, and message header information. In addition, ECS can be integrated with corporate directory systems such as Microsoft Active Directory to incorporate LDAP-related properties such as employee status or department in policy criteria. MessageGate ECS 4.0 simultaneously provides a complete spectrum of message actions thereby enabling companies to efficiently route and resolve non-compliant messages without creating needless overhead for IT organizations.

Real-Time Archive Categorization

MessageGate ECS 4.0 also delivers the most powerful message categorization server on the market today. Through powerful real-time analysis and easy integration with e-mail archiving solutions, ECS enables companies to apply consistent e-mail archiving policies to messages before they enter the archive. ECS can partition messages by category, enhance retrieval capabilities through the addition of policy-related meta-data, and reduce archiving costs through elimination of non-business e-mail from the archive. ECS's automated categorization, dynamic message tagging, and flexible routing also enable companies to partition corporate e-mail to support corporate knowledge management initiatives and to reduce operational costs.

"MessageGate's sophisticated categorization capabilities will enable companies to significantly reduce the costs associated with retrieval of messages from existing message archives," said Osterman. "Efficient retrieval for regulatory compliance is a critical issue that requires comprehensive e-mail compliance solutions that combine powerful e-mail categorization with rapid and cost-effective retrieval of archived e-mail."

Service-Oriented Architecture

Service-oriented architectures (SOAs) are rapidly emerging as the most scalable and resilient architectures for large enterprise applications. MessageGate ECS 4.0, based on industry standards such as Java, XML, WSDL, and SOAP, is a component-based SOA that provides a highly flexible, scalable and cost-effective way for organizations to implement policy enforcement capabilities while maintaining high system availability and reliability.

MessageGate's service-oriented architecture delivers a highly adaptable application architecture that minimizes the complexity of integrating related messaging technologies such as message archives and corporate directories. ECS supports the massive scalability and high availability requirements of large, regionally distributed messaging systems through component clustering and multi-tier deployments. To meet demanding enterprise policy requirements, ECS is powered by a J2EE-based policy engine that enables creation and modification of complex policy criteria through an easy-to-use, web-based user interface.
