Podcasting and Closed Captioning Services Added to City Web Site

Easy to use podcasting service for Elk Grove, Calif., residents.

In an effort to better streamline communication between local government and the residents it serves, the City of Elk Grove recently added podcasting and closed captioning services to the city's Web site.

Residents now have the option of viewing City Council and Planning Commission meetings through the earphones and mini-screens of today's ever-popular MP3 and MP4 players. The podcasting service allows Web site visitors to virtually observe Elk Grove city government at their convenience through a simple Internet download.

"With more residents using new technology to receive information, podcasting makes it even easier to access relevant information about the City of Elk Grove," said Mayor Jim Cooper. "With just the click of a mouse, residents can participate in local government any time, anywhere."

The podcasting service is easy to use. Simply log on to www.elkgrovecity.org and click on the "Webcast Meetings" link. Visitors are then offered the option of downloading City Council and Planning Commission Meetings to their MP3 or MP4 players. MP3 files will be downloaded to the portable device as an audio recording. The MP4 files will be downloaded to the device as both an audio and video file.

In addition to podcasting, the City of Elk Grove is also introducing closed captioning services for City Council and Planning Commission meetings on the City's Web site. This service will provide a written transcription of City webcast meetings. This service can also be accessed by logging on to www.elkgrovecity.org, then clicking on the "Webcast  Meetings" link.
