Threat Assessment Solution for First Responders

Software helps first responders quickly assess and manage chemical/biological threats

BIO-key is partnering with privately held Realinterface Expert Systems. The partnership will allow BIO-key to resell Threatscreen into the fire and emergency medical services market as a homeland security tool for first responders.

Threatscreen will be sold as a complementary solution to BIO-key's market-leading FireRMS records management system, which is currently installed in over 1,000 departments across North America. In addition to the core product, a customer can purchase "subscription services" to keep the causative agent library refreshed with the most current information on chemical or biological threats.

Realinterface's Threatscreen software provides mobile or hospital-based intelligent decision support in situations where a chemical, biological or nuclear threat is suspected.

Threatscreen is designed to walk a first responder through a series of questions to help match patient symptoms with the causative agent. Once identified the application then provides pre-defined local, state or federal protocols to treat as well as contain the situation.

"First responders may be trained to identify certain threats, but since they rarely, if ever, see them, they can easily be forgotten," says Mike DePasquale, CEO of BIO-key. "In keeping with our commitment to provide 'best in breed offerings', with Threatscreen our customers will have a tool at their fingertips to quickly assess whether or not a chemical or biological agent is involved, and if so, what to do about it."
