NASCIO Releases Video Series on Enterprise Architecture

Available for download

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) released an Enterprise Architecture Video Series for state CIOs and other officials.

NASCIO's architecture videos are intended to serve as a resource for CIOs, architects and other IT experts in their efforts to present a compelling message describing the value of enterprise architecture. They will also be used in new employee orientation and the introduction of enterprise architecture concepts to policy makers, government staff, and potentially the public. This four-volume set includes two videos previously released by NASCIO. Two additional videos were produced that direct the message of enterprise architecture toward policy makers and technical professionals, respectively. The complete video series provides a library of messages that can be selected based on the audience and intent of the presenter.

"NASCIO is pleased to announce the release of a new series of architecture videos," said Gerry Wethington, Missouri State CIO and NASCIO president. "These short but concise presentations do a great job of explaining basic concepts of enterprise architecture and will assist CIOs, lawmakers and other officials in conveying the need and importance for implementing sound business and technical architecture principles."

Enterprise architecture (EA) is an operating discipline that includes frameworks, methodology, best practices, standards and delivery. EA encompasses environmental understanding, the establishment of strategic business intent within the context of that environment, the identification and prioritization of capabilities that will enable that intent and the management initiatives that will deliver or further leverage those capabilities to execute on that intent.

These videos were produced with the intention of reaching a wide audience regardless of background and experience in technology.

Funding for the project was provided by a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs.

NASCIO represents the state chief information officers from the 50 states, six U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. Members include cabinet and senior level state officials responsible for information resource management. Other IT officials participate as associate members and private sector representatives may become corporate members.
