$3.6 Million in Grants to Local Texas Law Enforcement

"These grants provide local law enforcement with updated equipment and necessary resources"

Texas Governor Rick Perry announced the award of $3.6 million to eight local law enforcement departments to establish special criminal enterprise units targeting violent crime and drug enforcement activities. Funds will also provide local officers with the latest law enforcement technology equipment. These grants are awarded under the federal Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program and are distributed by the Governor's Criminal Justice Division (CJD).

"These grants provide local law enforcement with updated equipment and necessary resources enabling them to better serve our communities and protect our citizens," Perry said.

Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants provide support to state and local governments for a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system. Each year, CJD awards more than $113 million in grants for a variety of juvenile justice, criminal justice and victim services programs.
