Bock has also worked as a homeland security specialist in private industry, and is a certified trainer for the U.S Department of Homeland Security's Center for Domestic Preparedness.
"Alan brings extensive homeland security experience and expertise to the position," said Secretary Tom Dravland. "We're thrilled to have found such a well-qualified candidate, and we're excited to have him on board."
As director of the Office of Homeland Security, Bock will oversee the administration of federal Homeland Security Grants in South Dakota and will facilitate information sharing among the local, state, and federal intelligence networks.
"This is a great opportunity. I feel fortunate to be stepping into such a solid organization, and I look forward to meeting and working with the Homeland Security partners throughout South Dakota," said Alan Bock.
Bock will begin his new post on Monday, March 9, 2009. He replaces John Berheim who retired last November.
