Bomb Robot Delivered to Northeast Ohio Bomb Squad

Federal homeland security funding used to strengthen preparedness and response capabilities

Ohio Department of Public Safety Director Ken Morckel joined Rocky River Mayor Pam Bobst and local police officers to present a bomb robot to the Westshore Enforcement Bureau's bomb squad. The bomb robot was paid for by federal homeland security dollars. The Westshore Enforcement Bureau includes members from the following six northeast Ohio police departments:
  • Bay Village Police Department
  • Fairview Park Police Department
  • Lakewood Police Department
  • North Olmstead Police Department
  • Rocky River Police Department
  • Westlake Police Department

"This is another great example of Ohio using homeland security funding in a wise, coordinated and effective way," said Director Morckel, who is also Chair of the State of Ohio Security Task Force. "Our first responders and law enforcement officials must have the equipment they need to respond to a potentially dangerous situation. It's an honor to be presenting a bomb robot today to the Westshore Enforcement Bureau, which will help to strengthen this region's preparedness and response capabilities."

In addition to the bomb robot, 27 protective bomb suits, 115 radiological pagers that can detect radiation and 18 MARCS radios have been provided to accredited bomb squads across Ohio.

Ohio Homeland Security is a division within the Ohio Department of Public Safety along with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Ohio Emergency Management Agency, Ohio Emergency Medical Services, Investigative Unit, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services and Administration.
