City Council approves Jim Clack as new Minneapolis Fire Chief

Twenty-one year veteran has been acting chief since April of 2006.

The Minneapolis City Council has approved Mayor R.T. Rybak's nomination of Jim Clack to be the new Minneapolis Fire Chief. Clack is a 21-year veteran of the Minneapolis Fire Department, and has been serving as acting chief since April 2006.

Clack began his career as a firefighter with the Hazardous Materials Team and later became a captain. Over the years, he has served as Assistant Chief of Training, EMS Officer, and Deputy Chief of Personnel, before becoming Assistant Fire Chief.

Clack is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy, and he holds a bachelor's degree from Southwest State University in Fire Administration. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree from St. Mary's University.

Chief Clack's term will expire Jan. 2, 2008.
