City of Boise, Idaho Hosts Wildland Fire Presentation

Learn about fires, celebrate Smokey's birthday Aug. 8; Sunset Series Parks and Recreation programs are offered the second and fourth Wednesdays.

Learn about wildland fires and celebrate Smokey's birthday Wednesday, Aug. 8 at the next Sunset Series program at the Foothills Learning Center, 3188 Sunset Peak Road. Admission is free.

Children and adults are invited to the birthday party from 5-6 p.m. Hear Smokey's true story, eat cake and have your picture taken with Smokey plus giveaways and prizes.

At 7 p.m., Kelly Cardoza, a fire prevention specialist with the Boise National Forest, will give a presentation about wildland fire management. She'll talk about the Foothills fire of 1996, slope and fuels, why fires burn the way they do, suppression efforts, and steps you can take to prevent wildland fires.

Sunset Series programs are offered the second and fourth Wednesdays. On Aug. 22, the topic will be the "Cool Boise" campaign and global warming.
