Elaine Duke Nominated as DHS's Under Secretary for Management

Responsible for department's budget, appropriations, expenditure of funds, procurement, human resources, information technology systems, facilities and property management.

Statement by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff:
I am pleased that President Bush has announced the nomination of Elaine Duke as the Department of Homeland Security's Under Secretary for Management. Elaine's commitment to the department's mission is clearly evident through her consistent dedication and devotion in everything she does.

Elaine began her service to the department in 2002 as the Deputy Assistant Administrator for Acquisitions at the Transportation Security Administration. She served as the department's Deputy Chief Procurement Officer from October 2004 to January 2006, when she assumed duties as the Chief Procurement Officer. She further excelled in October 2007 when she became the department's first Deputy Under Secretary for Management.

As the department's Under Secretary for Management, Elaine is responsible for managing our department's budget, appropriations, expenditure of funds, procurement, human resources, information technology systems, and facilities and property management.

I am delighted to know that once again Elaine is stepping up to further support the department in such a critical position. I look forward to our continued interaction and common goal of strengthening and unifying the department's operations and management.
