"I am thrilled to be partnering with one of Louisville's outstanding corporate citizens to provide Internet access to both jurors and other individuals doing business with the courts," said Nicholson. "We see this project as a way to effectively use technology to improve service."
Nicholson was approached by Drew Allgeier, Smoothstone's vice president of business development, and Benham Sims, a local attorney and former judge, about the prospect of a collaboration.
"I was recently called for jury duty and while I was proud to serve as a juror, doing so involved some downtime," said Allgeier. "As I waited to hear my name called for cases, I kept thinking about how much more attractive jury duty would be to busy professionals if there was a way to connect back to our offices, when time permitted. My friend, Benham Sims, had the same idea. The service we are announcing today is a result of our collective efforts. Smoothstone is proud to provide this public service to such an important facility in our home town."
"During my own jury duty last year, I watched businessmen and women open their laptops in the jury pool area and then grimace when they realized there was no wireless Internet access available," said Sims.
The high-speed, wireless Internet access service is open to the public and is accessible from any wireless network ready laptop, cell phone or other device, similar to other wireless "hot spots" in Louisville's WiFi Hotspot Program (for a list of these locations, go to: www.louisvilleky.gov/wifi.htm).
