Indiana Police Department Introduces New Reporting App

Submitting an anonymous crime tip or looking up the whereabouts of local sex offenders just got a whole lot easier with the recent introduction of a cellphone app by the Portage police department.

(TNS) — Submitting an anonymous crime tip or looking up the whereabouts of local sex offenders just got a whole lot easier with the recent introduction of a cell phone app by the Portange, Ind., police department.

"In today’s world, most people have cell phones and use it for nearly everything," Police Chief Troy Williams said. "So, the ability of users to have immediate access to receive alerts, submit tips or find needed assistance will continue to help us keep our community safe and our crime rates at historically low levels."

The new mobile app is available on Google Play and the Apple App store.

Users are greeted with a welcome from the chief and will have access to information such as how to file for a gun permit and how to look up local sex offenders, Williams said. The app also contains information about the Police Assisted Addiction Recovery Initiative and how to submit a tip confidentially.

Also featured are links to the department's social media sites and other important organizations such as the Porter County Prosecutor's Office, Porter County government, Portage Township Trustee, Porter County Sheriff's Department, The Caring Place and other local police departments and aid organizations, he said.

The app also has links for weather, news stories and events.
