National Emergency Preparedness Coordinating Council to Hold First Regional Conference in Atlanta, Georgia

Conference will bring together government and private sectors to collaborate on developing effective emergency preparation and response capabilities.

The National Emergency Preparedness Coordinating Council (NEPCC) will hold the first in a series of regional conferences focused on the collection and sharing of best practices and solutions related to emergency planning, preparation, response, and remediation. The Conference will take place at the State of Georgia Archives Facility in Atlanta, Georgia, October 10 -11, 2007.

Hosted by the State of Georgia Office of the Secretary of State, Georgia State Archives, the Office of Emergency Management, and the Georgia Technology Authority, the event will focus on four key topics -- identity management, procurement and distribution, records, and tagging, tracking and targeting -- and their role in supporting response, continuity of government services and recovery.

Dan Combs, Director of the NEPCC, said the Conference will facilitate sharing of a wide range of information leading to better response to emergencies and improved remediation of their effects.

"We encourage Federal, State and local government leaders as well as private sector experts to share their expertise and experience in dealing with disaster situations at the conference. Working together, we can develop a framework for sharing information, expertise and best practices for a coordinated and effective emergency response. These resources can then be shared across boundaries and organizations throughout the nation."
