New York City Plans Hearing on Digital Television Transition Education Efforts

The council hopes to better understand the current outreach efforts to consumers, electronics stores and businesses.

On Monday, November 24, 2008, New York City Councilwoman Gale A. Brewer, Chair of the Technology in Government Committee, will hold a hearing regarding the transition from analog to digital television taking place on February 17, 2009.

The Technology Committee wants to evaluate the status of the City's preparations for a smooth transition for New York City's residents who have "rabbit ears" on their televisions, and who do not pay for cable service. As the changes for broadcast television draws closer, many in New York City are unaware of the transition and the steps necessary to guarantee continual television service. With this hearing, the council hopes to better understand the current outreach efforts to consumers, electronics stores and businesses.

The Digital Transition Hearing will be held by the Technology in Government Committee on Monday, November 24 at 10:00 AM in the 16th Floor Hearing Room of 250 Broadway, New York. This is a public meeting and all are welcome to attend.
