Chauncey G. Parker, New York State's director of criminal justice was awarded the fourth annual Rudolph W. Giuliani Leadership Award at the Executive Leadership Institute at the 16th annual GTC East held in Albany, New York in September.

The Rudolph W. Giuliani Leadership Award was established by GTC in 2001 to recognize outstanding public sector executives in the state of New York who have demonstrated exemplary leadership in building strong alliances, fostering the development of new leaders within government and effectively managing crises. The first award was presented to then mayor, Rudolph Giuliani, following his outstanding leadership during and after the September 11 attacks.

As Director of Criminal Justice, Mr. Parker serves as Governor Pataki's senior advisor for criminal justice and oversees New York State's criminal justice agencies. Prior to his appointment by Governor Pataki as director of criminal justice in February 2002, Parker served as assistant district attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office and as an assistant United States attorney in the Southern District of New York.

Parker's leadership role has built strong alliances with federal, state and local law enforcement: during his tenure at the US Attorney's Office he successfully prosecuted some of the most violent Chinese gangs in New York City, including the Fuk Ching and Fukienese Flying Dragons.

He has been honored with numerous law enforcement awards, including the James Fox Memorial Award from the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation; the Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service, the second highest annual honor given by the U.S. Department of Justice; and the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Director's Award. He now adds the Rudolph W. Giuliani Leadership Award to his list of accolades.
