Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction to Test Prisoner Tracking

Tests RFID for prisoner tracking

Last week, the Ohio Controlling Board approved the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) to test a project at the Ross Correctional Facility in Chillicothe, Ohio using RFID transmitters installed in wristwatch-sized devices to track prisoners. ODRC currently operates 33 adult facilities collectively housing approximately 44,000 inmates. The objective of the pilot project will be to evaluate the technology for potential application throughout the Ohio prison system. Installation of the pilot system is expected to begin by the end of August.
