Drivers may access the service through the Virginia Court System's Case Management System located on the state's Judicial Home Page or at Virginia Beach's, eTickets section of the city's Web site The service is the result of a unique intergovernmental partnership between the Supreme Court of Virginia, the Virginia Information Providers Network (VIPNet), and the Virginia Beach General District Court.
The new service enables citizens to make online payments using a credit card, for several types of offenses such as speeding, failure to yield, and seat belt violations as well as open container in public and unleashed animals, from any computer with Internet access, night or day, 7 days a week. There are no additional costs or fees for online payment, giving citizens a convenient and cost effective alternative to counter transactions or mail-in payments.
Virginia Beach, a nationally recognized leader in offering extensive online services for citizens, volunteered to be the pilot site for the initial launch of the service. The Supreme Court of Virginia collaborated with VIPNet to integrate VIPNet's electronic payment capabilities with the court's Case Management System, which provides Virginia residents with online access to cases filed in each locality's general district court. In the future, the court plans to add the online payment service for all localities across Virginia.
VIPNet is a state entity that assists other government sectors to provide information and services on the Internet. VIPNet also manages the official Virginia homepage or portal which was selected by the Center for Digital Government as the best state Web portal in the nation in 2002.
