Pennsylvania Does Tourism

Partnership for online reservations for travel and lodging

On behalf of Gov. Mark Schweiker, Department of Community and Economic Development officials yesterday unveiled a new online reservation system on ExperiencePA.com, the commonwealth's premier travel and tourism website.

"Pennsylvania's tourism industry will reap the incredible benefits of this online reservation system," said Frederick "Fritz" Smith, deputy secretary for tourism, film and economic-development marketing. "With the help of WorldRes and Webervations, Pennsylvania is making this remarkable reservation system available to potential visitors via the Internet. Vacation planners and travel agents alike can research a destination, check hotel, motel and bed and breakfast room availabilities and make an instant reservation."

Joined by legislators and tourism industry leaders, Smith made the announcement during Tuesday's designated "tourism day" activities. Pennsylvania's Tourism, Film and Economic Development Marketing Office partnered with the Pennsylvania Tourism and Lodging Association (PTLA) and the Pennsylvania Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus (PACVB) to showcase tourism's impact on the Commonwealth's economy and the growth of the tourism industry.

Last year, more than 1.3 million Web users visited ExperiencePA.com. It is anticipated that this number will grow significantly due to the offering of the online booking service. Approximately 25 percent of states in the nation provide online booking to travelers.
