The Supreme Court of Louisiana and the Government of Bermuda were named 2007 Silver Winners of the Global Excellence in Business Process Management (BPM) and Workflow Award. The awards, which are supported by the Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC) and the Workflow and Reengineering International Association (WARIA), acknowledge companies for their innovative implementation of BPM solutions to meet strategic business objectives. The Supreme Court of Louisiana secured a Silver award for North America, while the Government of Bermuda landed a Silver award for South and Central America.

Supreme Court of Louisiana
The Supreme Court of Louisiana, which is responsible for servicing over four million residents of the state of Louisiana as well as users within the court system, implemented the BEA AquaLogic BPM Suite to help overcome several obstacles including the recovery from Hurricane Katrina; admission of 22,500 new attorneys to the bar in 2007 and exceeding case clearance rates by 100 percent. All of these processes -- filings, clearings and issuance of Certificates of Good Standing -- were previously handled using laborious manual processes. With the BPM Suite, the court has been able to enhance productivity at district offices, enable more consistent service to external users, reduce virtual court process time, unify channels for filing various documents and prompt routing based on business rules, and eliminate complex work environments.

"We started with BPM at the tactical level to address a few processes that were slow, manual and time consuming," said Peter Haas, director of technology at the Supreme Court of Louisiana. "But with the rapid success we've seen using BEA's collaborative BPM, we're growing our process improvements to the strategic level, tackling mission-critical items that affect the overall success of the Court. We're proud to be recognized as one of the most technologically advanced courts, especially for our ability to recover from Hurricane Katrina along with serving our public constituents before, during and after the disaster."

Government of Bermuda
Additionally, the Government of Bermuda, nominated by Project Performance Corp., deployed the BEA AquaLogic BPM Suite platform to better communicate with the island's 60,000 residents and over 5,500 companies. While many commercial industries have embraced business process management as a key driver for improving productivity, many government and public-sector organizations have yet to reap the benefits of implementing BPM technologies and methodologies.

As an early adopter, the Government of Bermuda launched its "Forms and Transaction Engine" project as the mechanism for identifying, implementing, and improving online government-to-citizen (G2C) and government-to-business (G2B) transactions. Using BEA BPM combined with BEA's portal technology, BEA AquaLogic User Interaction, the government realized tangible benefits and immediate return on investment from applying process-oriented methodologies to improve service to constituents. The impact of the Forms and Transaction Engine project is resulting in faster time to market for e-government solutions, a standardized approach to solution development, improved services to constituents and identification of shared process services throughout government.
